Since antiquity, Orange has been able to leave traces of ancient monuments. This city dedicated to art will offer you a unique experience, the Choregies, held every summer at the Ancient Theatre.

Ancient Roman theater in Orange

The Ancient Theatre of Orange was built during the establishment of the city of Orange in the time of Augustus, immortalised by a statue that adorns the wall of the building.

With a façade that was described by Louis XIV as “the most beautiful wall of the kingdom”, this building is one of the best preserved of the Roman period.

It could accommodate up to 10,000 spectators and was restored in 1825 by Prosper Mérimée.

Around the Ancient Theatre, you can enjoy the life of the city centre animated by the big market held on Thursday mornings.
